Under the Spell of Africa

Although I should have known better, Africa seemed to me very alien for a long time, so that my wife Ines had to give me a little push for our first Africa journey in 2009. On our first trip through Namibia, I fell in love with the solitary and sublime vastness of the landscapes, so deeply was my soul touched by this land. Since then I have often traveled to countries of southern and eastern Africa. Nowhere else in the world can one find such a large amount of wild predators and mammals. The previously unknown genre of wildlife photography started to fascinate me. Being in the nature, only relying on a chance or intuition to make an image in the right light at the perfect place, was euphoric for me. My pictures show the Africa that I love, and although I know that this continent is not only romantic and beautiful, it is important to me to capture everything in my photographs for this and subsequent generations because they are worth protecting.
